Dear Supporters, Friends and 43rd Ward Neighbors:
This portion of our
campaign team's journey has come to an end. The votes have been cast and
counted, and the outcome is breathtakingly close. Many supporters and the
Illinois Ballot Integrity Project have strongly encouraged us to demand a
recount. No one was more committed to winning this race than I, but
this election has shown us that our ward is split in two. I believe
that divisive politics have played too large a role in this election
already, and that the best way to move the 43rd Ward forward is to
acknowledge that we have come up short by a little over 200 votes. Further
divisiveness can only harm our neighbors and neighborhoods.
I love living and raising my family in the 43rd Ward, and believe every
parent should be judged on their commitment to make their children better
than themselves. Every parent has an obligation to teach children to act
with integrity. Allowing the ward to move forward without formally
challenging the result of the election is a lesson I hope my sons and my
neighbors will respect and appreciate now and in the future.
I am so proud of you--my supporters, friends and neighbors. I want to
sincerely thank you for everything you did for our campaign.
This ending is bittersweet. Our hardworking staff and team of
supporters and volunteers worked tirelessly together to share our message
and our vision with the community, and we can be proud of all that we have
accomplished.
Together, we helped focus attention on the city's budget crisis and the need
for greater fiscal responsibility. We brought a spirit of compromise and
creativity to contentious issues of development. We encouraged the citizens
of the 43rd Ward to embrace the vision of an economically thriving community
that honors and preserves the best of its past while looking with confidence
and excitement toward the future.
The diversity and energy of the group that came together to support this
campaign is both heartening and promising. Your passionate investment in the
political process is a great gift that will enrich our community for years
to come. Each and every one of you made vital contributions to this
campaign, and I am deeply grateful.
Thank you for being so generous with your time, your support, and your
friendship. I'm honored and humbled by your unwavering faith in my ability
to lead our ward and our city forward, and I am incredibly proud of the
campaign that we ran, and our spirit of teamwork and mutual support.
I remain as committed as ever to staying involved in the life of this ward
that I love and call home. I look forward to continuing to work with all of
you to ensure that our community remains an appealing and satisfying place
in which to live, work, raise a family, launch and grow a business, and
enjoy all of the unique features of our neighborhoods.
Sincerely,
